printed displays on plastic film

NanoChromics™ Displays – flexible, ultra thin and completely printed by plastic electronic – an extraordinary solution for special customer requirements.

The printed displays are produced and commercialised under a licence agreement. Grantor of the licence of the NanoChromics™ Displays is NTERA Inc., Dublin / Ireland.

The activation of the display is generated by the colour transition of an organic molecules attached to a printed, nano-structured semi-conducting film. An electrical signal controls the speed of the appearance and also the colour intensity of each separate display element.

After removing the electrical signal, the display color is retained for some time, after which it will slowly fade, and can be reactivated at a defined time. Special effects like a toggle mode can be realised. A constant color can be maintained by intermittently applying a small “top-up” charge to the display from the control electronics.

The displays are produced by sheet-fed screen printing using proprietary NanoChromics™ ink systems. They can be made extraordinarily thin and extremely flexible on the supporting material.

To activate the NanoChromics™ display, a minimal voltage of 1,5 Volt is required. Slightly higher voltages can be used for short time periods to increase switching speed. The current drain of the NCD display is very low.
